Ali's Zigzag Linden Top
The Pattern is the Linden Sweatshirt by Grainline studio. It is a beginner friendly, raglan sleeved, boxy fit sweatshirt which has a choice of short or long sleeves and different hem lengths. This pattern is available as a PDF download and paper, available from UK outlets.
I love my version of this ‘sweatshirt’. I wanted a much more fitted look so, after construction, I drew around a favourite top on the side seams and overlocked at this mark. I also took the sleeves in as they were very wide on me. This is probably because the fabric was so lightweight.
I made the hem band half the depth and cut it shorter to match the new slimmer silhouette and I think that suits it and I just hemmed the sleeves leaving off the cuffs.
The fabric is a zigzag slub sweater stretch knit teamed with a black and silver slub sweater stretch knit which was lighter in weight. They went well together though. Both were from www.minerva.com. I think this slub sweater knit would make a lovely drapey cardigan.
I had a metre of each so not enough to match stripes properly so just went with colour rather than pattern and I’m very pleased with the outcome.
I made the size US08 and it is still a little too big under the arms and originally the whole pattern was way too big due to the fabric being so much thinner than the pattern is drafted for. Next time I will size down to a US06 especially if using a thin fabric.
I'm in love with this top! I have a very comfortable unique top with a little sparkle! What’s not to like?! ?
